Walla Wines is a "micro-boutique" winery and vineyard in the South-West Slopes of New South Wales near the Murray River. Our cellar door is open for free tastings and sales every weekend and on Public Holidays. We are only a phone call away and are happy to open during the week by prior arrangement.

Our table wines are all made at the winery by Paul. The fortified wines are made at Rutherglen and aged and blended at the winery. Features of our wine making are:

  • Grapes are pressed gently in the traditional basket press.
  • Wines are clarified by racking off with filtering at bottling only.
  • Bottling is done by a mobile bottling plant, which comes to the winery.
  • Red wines are aged in small oak barrels
  • White wines are made in stainless steel vats

Our vineyard operation uses a mix of tradition and science to ensure minimal impact on the environment:

  • Canopy management to open the vines for even ripening and disease control
  • Mulching for weed and water management
  • Fertilising with organic fertilisers
  • Strategic disease prevention with fungicides approved by organic registering organisations
  • Integrated pest management ensures minimum chemical intervention in the vineyard

About Your Hosts at Walla Wines

Paul and Chris moved to Walla Walla in 1981 after working in Papua New Guinea, the Northern Territory and at Puckapunyal in Victoria.

Paul is an agriculturalist and teacher and Chris is a registered nurse. They started making wine as a hobby 12 years ago. In 1998 they planted the vineyard and built the winery. Paul completed a Graduate Diploma in viticulture at Charles Sturt University at Wagga Wagga to add to his agriculture and science qualification and since then has completed short courses in winemaking at the Dookie campus of Melbourne University.

Chris and Paul do all the vineyard and winemaking operations except the bulk of the bottling which is done by contract. Chris manages the marketing through the cellar door and Farmer's Market.
